Waarom zou je niet in de voetsporen treden van deze man uit de P\u00e9rigord, die een leidende figuur blijft in de Franse klassieke literatuur?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Een kind van Sarlat<\/strong><br \/>\nHet was in het hart van de middeleeuwse stad, tegenover de kathedraal Saint-Sacerdos, dat de schrijver werd geboren op 1 november 1530, waar zijn vader de post bekleedde van luitenant van de &#8220;seneschal van de koning&#8221; in P\u00e9rigord, dat wil zeggen de rechterhand die administratieve, financi\u00eble en juridische bevoegdheden uitoefende namens de vorst.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Vanaf de <strong>Pech Charmant<\/strong> is het slechts twintig minuten rijden naar het oude Renaissance huis dat intact is gebleven.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2809\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lepech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/maison-la-boetie-sarlat.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lepech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/maison-la-boetie-sarlat.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.lepech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/maison-la-boetie-sarlat-768x492.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.lepech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/maison-la-boetie-sarlat-420x269.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.lepech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/maison-la-boetie-sarlat-656x420.jpg 656w, https:\/\/www.lepech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/maison-la-boetie-sarlat-720x461.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Humanist, dichter en schrijver<\/strong><br \/>\nOpgegroeid in een familie van magistraten, werd de jongeman natuurlijk advocaat. Vanuit deze erudiete middenklasse erft hij een voorliefde voor literatuur en een niet aflatende nieuwsgierigheid. Gefascineerd door de Oudheid, zoals de jonge bourgeoisie van zijn tijd, componeerde hij al snel verzen in het Latijn, Grieks en Frans, voordat hij Vergilius of Plutarchus vertaalde&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Hij was nog maar net afgestudeerd in de rechten of hij schreef op drie\u00ebntwintigjarige leeftijd het werk dat hem beroemd zou maken: Discourse on Voluntary Servitude (Verhandeling over vrijwillige dienstbaarheid). Het manuscript werd pas in 1576 gepubliceerd. De P\u00e9rigord, met zijn vele kastelen en forten die je op slechts een paar minuten van de camping Pech Charmant kunt ontdekken, was het toneel van bittere gevechten tussen katholieken en protestanten. Maar het talent van La Bo\u00e9tie duurde niet lang. In 1563 stierf hij op 33-jarige leeftijd aan tuberculose. De humanistische schrijver werd in het nageslacht opgenomen door zijn vriend Montaigne uit Bordeaux, die getuige was van zijn lijdensweg. Montaigne bracht hem vijftien jaar later een postuum eerbetoon in zijn beroemde Essais.
